Basic Conjunctions in Korean: A Guide for English Speakers
Understanding Conjunctions in Korean
Conjunctions are a crucial part of language, allowing you to connect words, phrases, and clauses. In Korean, conjunctions play a significant role in linking ideas and expressions, much like their English counterparts.
Common Korean Conjunctions
그리고 (and)
The word 그리고 is used to connect sentences or clauses, similar to the English "and." For instance, "나는 사과를 좋아해요 그리고 바나나도 좋아해요" translates to "I like apples and I also like bananas."
하지만 (but)
To express contrast or opposition in Korean, use 하지만. It functions like the English word "but." For example, "책을 읽고 싶어요, 하지만 시간이 없어요" translates to "I want to read a book, but I don't have time."
또는 (or)
When presenting choices or alternatives, use 또는. It's similar to the English word "or." For example, "커피 또는 차를 드릴까요?" means "Would you like coffee or tea?"
